Over the last year, major fires across Sumatrahave released more carbon emissions every day thanthe daily activity of the entire U.S. economy. In aneffort to protect these last remaining rainforests ? thevital lungs of our planet ? our foundation is fundingtheir effort to preserve 6.5 million acres from theinvasive and destructive practices of the palm oilindustry. We are underway with similar efforts inthe Amazon rainforest of Ecuador, where we aresupporting the Ceibo Alliance, an indigenous effortto stop rampant and destructive oil extraction that ispoisoning their lands and communities.In the United States, we are partnering with theSolution Project to promote clean energy and supportlocal efforts to implement these projects in theircommunities.160 2016 JUNE
